Statement from Monsignor Domenico Calliandro Archbishop of BrindisiDeclaring Alleged Apparitions Not Supernatural

Since 2009, the Archdiocese of Brindisi-Ostuni was affected by some mystical phenomena, involving the alleged apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary on [alleged visionary], better known as "the little oak." In 2010, the media coverage of the phenomenon and the understandable confusion of some faithful, led my predecessor Mons. Rocco Talucci to take accurate information about the nature of these Marian apparitions. The result of this first survey was later brought to the attention of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith for all evaluations of the case. Recently, in a letter of 12 February 2015, prot. n. 122 / 2011-48990, the Department has given its opinion on the phenomenon, giving the undersigned Ordinary, full faculty of the measures to be taken. Therefore, availing of the option granted by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and the premises due consultations, by virtue of my ordinary,
DECLARE NOT AUTHENTIC THE MYSTICAL EXPERIENCE IN THE SUBJECT.
At the same time, wanting a sincere return of the faithful to the ordinary practice of the Christian life, I decree the following:
1. under the can. 1319 §1 CJC is forbidden to [alleged visionary] to spread, by any means, content regarding the alleged apparitions, as well as "messages" or "secrets", under penalty of latae sententiae interdict and the subsequent ban on the sacraments (can. 1331 § 1 2, 1331 CJC)
2. is willing against [alleged visionary] and the closest collaborators disqualification from any ecclesiastical office in the Archdiocese of Brindisi-Ostuni.
3. all acts of worship directly or indirectly related to appearances, are considered prohibited. It 'also prohibited all forms of ecclesiastical patronage.
4. all the faithful is prohibited material or moral support of the works belonging to the seer, under penalty of latae sententiae interdict in point 1.
5. relies supervision on the provisions to the Reverend Parish Priests of the Archdiocese, subject to the direct intervention of the Archbishop's Curia for their own competence.

Dal 2009 ad oggi l'Arcidiocesi di Brindisi
-Ostuni è stata interessata da alcuni fenomeni mistici, aventi per oggetto le presunte apparizioni della Beata Vergine Maria al sig. Mario D'Ignazio, meglio noto come "il piccolo della quercia". Nel 2010 la risonanza mediatica assunta dal fenomeno e il comprensibile disorientamento di alcuni fedeli, spinsero il mio predecessore Mons. Rocco Talucci ad assumere accurate informazioni sulla natura delle suddette apparizioni mariane. Il risultato di questa prima indagine fu in seguito sottoposto all'attenzione della Congregazione per la Dottrina della fede per tutte le valutazioni del caso. Recentemente, con lettera del 12 febbraio 2015, prot. n. 122/2011-48990, il Dicastero ha espresso il proprio parere sul fenomeno, conferendo al sottoscritto Ordinario, piena facoltà circa i provvedimenti da adottare. Pertanto, avvalendomi delle facoltà concesse dalla Congregazione per la Dottrina della fede e premesse le dovute consultazioni, in forza della mia potestà ordinaria,
DICHIARO NON AUTENTICHE LE ESPERIENZE MISTICHE IN OGGETTO.
Al contempo, volendo un sincero ritorno dei fedeli alla pratica ordinaria della vita cristiana, dispongo quanto segue:
1. in forza del can. 1319 §1 CJC è fatto divieto al sig. Mario D'Ignazio di diffondere, con qualsiasi mezzo, contenuti riguardanti le presunte apparizioni, nonchè "messaggi" o "segreti", pena l'interdetto latae sententiae e il conseguente divieto a ricevere i sacramenti (can. 1331 §1 n.2, 1331 CJC)
2. è disposta a carico del sig. Mario D'Ignazio e dei sui più stretti collaboratori l'interdizione da qualsiasi incarico ecclesiale nell'Arcidiocesi di Brindisi
-Ostuni.
3. tutti gli atti di culto direttamente o indirettamente riconducibili alle apparizioni, sono da considerarsi vietati. E' altresì proibita ogni forma di patrocinio ecclesiastico.
4. a tutti i fedeli è vietato il sostegno materiale o morale delle opere facenti capo al veggente, pena l'interdetto latae sententiae di cui al punto 1.
5. si affida la vigilanza su quanto disposto ai Reverendi Parroci dell'Arcidiocesi, fatto salvo l'intervento diretto della Curia arcivescovile per quanto di propria competenza.
Tutte le prescrizioni, dettate dalla sollecitudine per la retta dottrina e l'integrità della fede (can. 386 §2, 823 CJC) entrano in vigore dalla data odierna nonostante qualunque disposizione in contrario.
